LeRoy Airport 5G0: Redbird TD2 Simulator

5G0 now has a Redbird TD2 desktop simulator available. This is an FAA certified BATD (Basic Aviation Training Device). A BATD generally has more enhanced hardware and software features than your typical home simulator. These features allow the FAA to authorize it for certain training and proficiency “credits.” These credits may pertain to private pilot certification (limited) as well as instrument rating and instrument currency requirements.

Maintain your IFR Currency, even when you can't fly your airplane due to weather! Not that weather might ever be a factor in Western NY.

Another very useful habit is to fly into new airports first with the simulator. Supplementing this with a study of Google Earth geography in the vicinity of the new airfield is becoming a recommended practice.

We have placed the simulator in the airport office. It was purchased and is owned by Patrick Kalgren - N9742H. Austin Hancock, a local CFI, is fully trained and able to coach you through its use. A printed user guide is included on the desk. For the moment, there is no software login requirement. However, you may find it useful to create a user account at https://redbird.com. There you can purchase access to some very good instructive scenarios.

You will find a sign-in sheet on the desk. Please fill it out so we can track utilization and verify that the machine is worth the cost of acquisition and ongoing maintenance. We've not established any fees or hourly rates, so please take advantage of this free access. At some point that "free access" may need to change, but for now, it's available so please use it gently, and kindly let us know you've been there.
